I have an interest in sacred architecture, sacred symbols, sacred signs, and sacred structures. There’s something about the spiral and spiralling that enables a kind of focused attention.
And, so, it’s something about that I’m trying to open up. In Hindu cosmology, there’s this idea of the bindu, which is the point, the dot, the centre, from which things emerge. It’s like the centre point of creation, a symbol of the cosmos. So, again, it’s this idea of grounding us, visually, into our multidimensionality. I’m also interested in creating spirals, conceiving of it as a ritualistic process, which enables tapping into a certain degree of awareness. Even though I don’t make a lot of things now, I’ve cultivated a practice around creating rattles and forms with accessible materials. This has enabled me to access a different fractal of myself; it connects me to a childlike, innocent, playful aspect, which hadn’t really been a part of my art for some time. I think everything happens as and when it’s supposed to. The spiral speaks to that, to the nonlinearity of how things unfold.

A Contemplative Tool for Multidimensional Awareness
The SUN DISC becomes a point of focus, a bindu in the Yorùbá sense, where contemplation becomes a pathway to understanding oneself and one's connection to both the ancestral past and the future's unfolding potential.
The concept of the bindu resonates deeply with Yorùbá cosmology through Ori, which is regarded as the essence of being, the seat of destiny (ayanmo), and the connecting point between the individual and the divine.
In Yorùbá thought, the Ori is more than a physical head -it is the spiritual compass and the central point from which all existence flows. Similarly, the bindu, in Hindu cosmology, represents the originating point of creation, the unmanifest centre that radiates life and energy outward.
The SUN DISC, with its circular form and incorporation of cosmic symbols of the crescent moon and sun, mirrors the Ori as a central anchor. A reminder of the individual’s connection to a greater whole. In this context, the disc becomes a tangible tool for contemplation and meditation, inviting users to centre themselves and align with their unique spiritual path while acknowledging their place within the vastness of the universe.

“Portals open up to us in dancing, it is an ancestral technology that connects us to the vibrational aspects of our reality.
The dancer is the cosmic spiral, an energy that emanates -
I am without shame, I am shameless. The body has its own nature, its own wisdom.”

I make dancing with the SUN DISC’s a practice.
From ‘Sun Ra: The Immeasurable Equation: The Collected Poetry and Prose’, 2005
The SUN DISC serves not only as an object of beauty and reflection but also as a bridge between the past, present, and future —a tool for accessing ancestral or intuitive wisdom and imagining new possibilities. In Yorùbá thought, Ori is connected to ancestors through the Orun (spiritual realm), and by engaging with the SUN DISC, users are symbolically aligning their Ori with the wisdom of those who came before and the energies yet to manifest…
The cosmic spiral across our universe
The materials used in the SUN DISC, such as copper wire, sunflower petals and shells act as metaphors for connecting with ancestral technologies and the alchemical processes that have guided humanity for generations. Each disc, a miniature
is a vessel of memory and a tool for envisioning the future.
